Liverpool could be set for a shock swoop for Nigerian defender Taribo West to bolster their defence, according to reports.
Reports emanating from Serbia & Montenegro suggest that Liverpool are weighing up a move for the colourful Partizan Belgrade defender.
West's future is up in the air as he has had a major bust-up with the club after breaking club discipline on several occasions, and they are willing to let him go.
Despite his poor disciplinary record Reds boss Gerard Houllier is still thought to be keen on bringing him to Anfield.
Houllier has held West in high regard and has been linked with the former Internazionale defender in the past.
Liverpool's normally reliable defence has looked suspect this season leaking too many goals and Houllier may see West as a key addition to his squad for the remainder of the season as they strive to make it into the UEFA Champions League.
West impressed in The Premiership during his short spell with Derby County in the 2000/2001 season, and he has also reportedly attracted the interest of Bolton and Wolves.
Bolton are in desperate need of a defender having lost Ricardo Gardner to long-term injury and Florent Laville still a long way off fitness with a knee problem.
Wolves could be in the market for a defender to bolster their squad as they aim to try and climb away from trouble at the wrong end of the table.
West's contract with Partizan expires in the summer, but they will be willing to sell him now to get a fee rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
